Editorial standards

These standards apply to everything published on Smooth Skin Daily.

Sources

  • We rely on peer-reviewed studies, clinical reviews and guidance from established medical organizations such as the American Academy of Dermatology, the National Institutes of Health, Cleveland Clinic, Mayo Clinic, DermNet and the FDA.
  • Every factual claim in an article is linked to a source we have read, and every article ends with a list of its sources.
  • We don’t cite anonymous blogs, brand marketing or unverified social media claims as evidence.

Medical accuracy

  • We describe what research supports, how strong that evidence is, and where it is limited or mixed.
  • We don’t recommend prescription drugs or doses. Where a condition may need medical treatment, we explain what a clinician might consider and when to seek care.
  • We never describe a cosmetic product as a cure or treatment for a disease.

Updates and corrections

Research changes, and so do our articles. Each article shows the date it was last updated. When we find an error, we correct it promptly; if the correction changes the meaning of the article, we note it at the end.

Independence of coverage

Our coverage of ingredients, products and routines is decided by our editors based on reader questions and the evidence. Read our disclosure for information about ownership and how we handle mentions of products made by our owner.
